Hiring Process

Our Hiring Process

VIPet Sitter Service, LLC, values our associate pet sitters.  Most of our pet sitters are experienced with pet care in some capacity, either through their personal pets, or another pet care provider (vet assistant, vet tech, or other vet office experience, grooming, daycare, home boarding, pet supply retail store,  shelter/rescue/foster work, or self employment in a pet related field), and are independent contractors.   You can be sure that almost all of our pet sitters have a variety of pets of their own, and have been pet owners all of their lives, often since childhood.  VIPet Sitter Service assures each sitter is covered with commercial liability and bond insurance.

Despite a background in pet care, VIPet Sitter Service takes extra steps to assure all of our pet sitters are familiar with our guidelines, protocols, and standard of care for our clients.  As such, we require after the initial "face to face" interview process and selection of a potential candidate, that each one participate in an orientation as part of the interview.  This means that each person accompanies the owner and other senior staff sitters on anywhere from 18-30 pet sits, for the amount of time required to not only evaluate each candidate as they demonstrate their skills, but also make sure it is a good match and every sitter starts their work feeling confident in what is expected of them by our company.

When all pet sitters have completed orientation, this allows us to work as a team, and each sitter delivers the same standard of care to each client home and pets.  We generally do not assign one pet sitter to a home, but rather work as a team, together functioning as  one unit. If you have a timid or special needs pet that requires a "one" or "two" person experience with a pet sitter, please call us to arrange a referral to a service that best meets this need.  For the safety of our pet sitters, aggressive pets or those  that display any type of  potential bite risk, those that are aggressive during walks, or excessively pull on walks (such as can possibly cause physical injury) cannot be accepted.

After the pet sitter candidate has passed the orientation interview and is made an offer to join our team, the background checks are completed, and the sitter completes the next 15 visits on their own.  They are required to call before leaving each home and report to the owner or a senior pet sitter to discuss the care provided, answer questions, and make sure all tasks were properly completed. We call this the "wean off" visits, and completes the hiring process.

After the wean-off visits, the pet sitter is officially on staff and is integrated into our schedule as a team member.  This does not mean orientation ends, however.  Whenever there is a home that requires more complex pet care, special instructions, medications, or anything unusual outside of standard pet care, the owner or a senior sitter will personally go over the care plan and even meet the sitter at the home, where needed, to go over the pet owner's instructions and make sure all is well understood or demonstrated for that particular pet.

We are very conscientious about our team of pet sitters, and do our very best to select the best, most reliable, honest, and awesome pet lovers to provide excellent service for you, your pets, and your home!

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to care for your beloved pet friends, we look forward to meeting you soon.
